Volunteers of Layag Pilipinas and Kythe spent a whole day of cleaning, scrubbing, priming and painting the walls of Quirino Memorial Medical Center’s breast feeding room.
The doctor wanted a room where mothers can stay and relax, a place where they would be encouraged and empowered to breast feed. So we turned a drab and very dull room into a princess-pink fairy paradise.
All of this is in preparation of Breastfeeding Awareness Month that is in August. (http://www.senate.gov.ph/lisdata/34522832!.pdf)
Did you know that all too often in the weeks or months after delivery, there is a sharp decline in breastfeeding rates and practices? Read about the Alarming Facts about Breastfeeding in the Philippines: http://startupmothering.wordpress.com/2012/08/01/alarming-facts-about-breastfeeding-in-the-philippines/
Continued support to sustain breastfeeding should be observed and provided by trained health workers, lactation consultants, community leaders, or from friends who are also mothers, and/or from fathers/partners.
Special thanks to Ate Mitzell and Ate Carol of Kythe Inc. for helping us!

We also helped paint the children’s playroom and library!
It was a team effort of Layag Pilipinas, Artist Madhouse and Kythe Inc. 🙂
